"A
tall, loose-limbed swaying figure appeared.....leaning on an ebony cane. As the limping figure
approached, one could distinguish, framed by an abundant black wig (which later is revealed to be his own), a face
as displeasing to the eye as was his gate. Two deep scars ran from his temple to his left cheek and across one
half-closed eyelid. The lips were strong and clean shaven, which was not the fashion and added to the strangeness of this weird scarecrow."
As described in Part Two - Marriage in Toulouse - in Angelique - the first novel in the remarkable romantic series by Sergeanne Golon
"The Comte was
clothed entirely in black and silver, his cloak of black watered silk was veiled with silver
lace fastened with diamond studs. Underneath the cloak could be seen a silver brocade doublet
trimmed with black lace of a very intricate needle-point. The same lace fell in three frills from his knees
below the dark velvet petticoat breeches. The shoes had diamond buckles. The cravat, which did not take the form of a band
but of a large bow, was also embroidered with small diamonds. His fingers more a
multitude of diamonds and one very large ruby. The Comte put on a hat with white plumes.

Joffrey's
Costume - circa 1670.
His black cloak is an unusual silk/lycra blend and when lined with a matching black lycra,
a wonderful drape was achieved. His black and silver doublet is closed in front by four pairs of "diamond" and "pearl" silver buttons.
The full sleeved, white silk shirt can be seen through the slashed sleeves. The
shirt sleeves puff below the doublet sleeves and ruffles fall from the wrist bands over the hands.
The full velvet court breeches fall over black tights and black lace at the knee. His handcrafted black
leather court shoes have silk bows and "diamond" buckles. A lawn handkerchief edged in antique lace drapes from a pocket flap. A "diamond"
studded silk cravat wraps his elegant neck. Two "diamond" rings and a ruby cabochon signet ring comprise his jewelry. He
carries a black and silver cane with silk ribbon streamers and wears a wide black hat with silver accents, fringed edge and white plumes.
The hat has white lining where it might touch Joffrey's face.
Basil St. John as Joffrey - has been completely repainted and his jaw re-sculpted. He has black eyes with a hint of silver at the pupil's edge, natural lips, scars at left temple, natural manicure and a new wig.
